cardiac tamponade - Coggle Diagram
cardiac tamponade
aetiology/risk factors
-
-
-
malignancy; haematological, breast and lung
Rheumatological; SLE, RA, Scleroderma
-
-
investigations
transthoracic echocardiogram; allows visualisation of the different chambers and provides information of the haemodynamics of the heart
inflammatory markers e.g ESR + CRP which are expected to be raised if secondary to pericarditis, TB, etc
-
-
ECG; will show electrican alternas; alternating amplitudes due to fluid sac that builds up, heart will swing closer to the chest wall and electrodes will pick this up and then swing back appearing as a reduction in QRS amplitude
-
management
No evidence of tamponade; NSAIDS or colchine, observe and monitor blood pressure
-
definition; reduced cardiac output due to raised intrapericardial pressures secondary to pericardial effusion
