The main employer in Jarrow, Palmer's Shipyard was closed down and this caused 75% Unemployment in Jarrow.
200 men walked from Tyneside in Jarrow to London (300 miles) to present a petition signed by 11,000 people.
The Aim of the March was to re-establish industry in Jarrow and create sympathy for the plight of the unemployed.
On 1st November the Marchers reached Hyde park and joined a rally, and the Jarrow Marchers held their own public meeting.
Ellen Wilkinson presented the Petition to Parliament but after a few minutes of ill tempered discussion they moved onto other matters.

The First Welsh Hunger March was to highlight the limitations of unemployment relief and the impact the this had on miners families.
They originally aimed to march to coincide with the opening of parliament but the TUC tried to stop this.
Despite this, 270 Miners decided to march and were supported along the way but the TUC remained Hostile.

The NUWM resented the implementation of the means test so they organised a hunger march from 18 different starting points.
The aim was to reach Hyde Park in such numbers that the government had to do something about it (3,000) people.
They presented a petition with 1,000,000 signitures
The government reacted by drafting in 2,000 extra police and mounted police were used to disperse the crowds

10 different continents converged and there was a total of 12,000 in the crowd and it was supported by Labour Party and Jarrow Marchers.
