Theme 1: Hitler's politics
By 1932, Hindenburg was 84 years old and in declining health.

The American Depression of 1929 sent the American Economy into a tailspin.
The Nazi party published a plan to help Hitler's election campaigns.
The "Nazi" brand combined the appeal of Socialism and Nationalism.

In 1932, there were 30 parties in parliament. Hitler promised to sweep them all away.
Theme 3: Germany's unconventional social structure.
MINE: Germany lacks a proper upper-middle class that most of Europe has. In other countries in Europe, the upper-middle class supported more liberal governments. What could be considered an "upper-middle class" (the Junkers) supported more authoritarian governemnts.
Proportional Representation led to a series of weak and unstable coalition governments.
Hitler appealed to farmers, saying their "blood and soil" (Blud und Buden) was the bedrock of Germany.
Working people saw their savings wiped out during the hyperinflation crisis.
Hindenburg, fearing another hyperinflation crisis, froze unemployment during the depression.
Many Junkers in Germany liked Hitler because he promised to contain Communism
