The Basketball Association of America (BAA) was founded in 1946 by owners of major sports halls in the Northeast and Midwest, such as New York's Madison Square Garden. The 11 teams that opened the curtain in the inaugural 1946-47 season were the Boston Celtics, Philadelphia Warriors, New York Knicks, Washington Capitols, Providence Steamrollers, Toronto Huskies, Chicago Stags, St. Louis Bombers, Cleveland Rebels, Detroit Falcons and Pittsburgh Ironmen. .4 Only three of those teams have survived to this day: the Boston Celtics, the New York Knicks and the Golden State Warriors, thus being the only ones to have played every season in the league since its founding. Of these, only the Boston Celtics and the New York Knicks have not moved from the city, being considered for these reasons as two of the most representative and historic teams in the league. On the other hand, the Warriors were born in Philadelphia, to move to San Francisco in 1962 and in 1971 to Oakland, a place they have occupied until 2019, the year in which they moved again to San Francisco.
