Evolution in the first forms of life
How did they evolve?
How Animals Evolved Animals likely formed from a group of heterotrophic protoctists called choanoflagellates. These are unicellular beings whose morphology resembles that of choanocytes,
Animals that evolved
First dinosaur
It was known as Eoraptor, lived 230 million years ago, in the middle Triassic, and evolved from other reptiles known as archosaurs.
First dog
The genus canis evolved in North America about 6 million years ago from Hesperocyon, a very fox-like canid that evolved in the Eocene.
First horse
It is known as Hyracotherium, it was a small mammal that lived about 50 million years ago, it was two feet long and weighed just over 20 kg, it shared characteristics with current horses.
First turtle
Known as Odontochelys, it was a tortoise that lived in the Triassic and was discovered in 2008. It had a soft shell and was small in size, measuring a foot long and weighing less than 1 kg.
First bird
It is known as Archeopteryx, but its title as the first bird is widely disputed due to its similarity to dinosaurs. It comes from the late Jurassic. It had feathers.
First crocodile
Very similar to the eoraptor, the crocodile walked on two legs and had a very elongated snout. It came from the archosaurs and was one of the three creatures that evolved from this saurian: dinosaurs, crocodiles and pterosaurs.
First fish
It enjoys the title of the first fish and the first vertebrate to have a backbone, known as Pikaia is the ancestor of all vertebrate creatures. It was two inches long and translucent.
