CHARACTERS
Tom Joad: is the protagonist of the novel and after coming out of the jail he dedicates himself to his family. As a migrant he loses all his dignity in order to survive and he cannot stands the injustice of th world so he adopts Jim Casy's Philosophical ideas
Jim Casy: is a former preacher wh feels Christian faith is no longer relevant. He belives that sin doesn't exist and the holiness can be found on earth by helping poor people. He thinks that man's soul is part of the greater soul of all living things

the journey as a quest for a better land because California is already corrupted and its inhabitants abuse people like Joads calling them Okies that is people from Oklahoma
The family and theida of brotherhood because Steinbeck thinks that isn't genetics that estabilish a kindship but loyalty and commitment

TITLE
The title of the novel is a quote from the famous American patriotic song written by an abolitionist at the time of the American Civil War
The grapes of Steinbeck's novel's title symbolise the promised land of California, which turns out to be a disillusionment. So the grapes of hope turned into grapes of anger/wrath
WRATH
Steinbeck's wrath was directed at those who abused power and he exposed the myhts of the American dream. He didn't want his readers to loso hope, he wanted them to get angry

PLOT
It's the story of a migrant family: the Joads who travelled from Oklahoma to California which was the promise land.
After going out of prison, Tom goes back home and he meets Jim Casy a former preacher
The family is leaving for a trip from Oklahoma to California looking for a better future and they invited Casy to join them.
The trip is very hard due to any problems in finding a palace to live. they finally move to a migrant camp in Hooverville where they find out it's impossible to find a job so they leave and move to a government camp for migrant workers
One night Tome goes looking for the protesters and finds that Casy is the leader. Casy dies ina a fight between protestens and some deputies
Tom escapes and hides nearby. His mother finds him and they have their last converstation before leaves to fulfil Casy's dream of organising the workers
LIFE
He was born in 1902 in California and he left university without a degree to start his writing career in New York but soon went back to California

Steinbeck decided to embark on a trip from Oklahoma to California with a group of migrant workers. He lived and worked with them in a work camp and this experience provided the inspiration for his novel The Grapes of Wrath.
