Inflections
Grammar is the set of rules of any given language that enable us to construct any sentence in that language. Grammar is subdivided into:
-
- Inflections: they are a branch of grammar through which we mean endings which we add to a word to indicate aspects such as past tense and plural. They aren't used to create new lexemes.

Verb inflection
- base form: it is the uninflected stem of the verb
-
The base form of the verb may be varied by the addiction of four regular inflections, which we only find in lexical verbs:
-
2) -ing inflection, also known as the -ing participle
-
4) -ed participle takes the same form as the regular past tense inflection butt we make a distinction between these two inflections because their functions are different and also because irregular verbs may have different forms for the past tense and the -ed participle
be is the most irregular verb in English: it has 3 different present tense forms and 2 differen past tense forms
