Nursing Interview
Care
Care is vital to the role of a nurse as you generally have sick, unwell patients in your care and being caring is vital to helping them get better and receiving the medical attention they need.
An example of when i was caring was when i was working at the Vaccine hub, we had a man in who was extremely anxious about getting his vaccination and he lost all colour in his face and looked like he was about to faint so i ran up to the staff room to get him a drink of water and a chocolate biscuit to try and get his sugar levels back up and then i sat with him for 20 mins just to make sure he was okay and felt okay.

Compassion
Since January i've been working at the vaccination centre in Darlington which has been an amazing experience. However a couple of weeks ago we had a lady in for her vaccine and she had come in secret because her husband doesn't believe that covid is real and she got quite upset and emotional and we were talking to her and showing compassion trying to make her situation slightly better.

Showing compassion and having empathy is vital in nursing as quite often you will come across distressed unwell people and their families and you need to try and understand what they're going through.
Courage
Having courage especially when your a student is a really important thing because without it you will just stay at the same level and won't get any better you need to have to the courage to ask for help or to speak in an awkward difficult situation.
A time when i've shown courage is probably when i first started Kynren i was about 14 and i hardly knew anyone at all and when i stepped in to the barn everyone knew each other and it was difficult but then you just have to throw yourself in to the situation which is what i did and it was fine and turned out to be an amazing experience and just by having a bit of courage really helped.

Communication
Communication is extremely important when working within a multidisciplinary team as you have lots of people to work with and we aren't super humans and can't do everything on our own. Therefore if lots of tasks need doing at once then you would shout for help and not try to do them all at once on your own.
I work in a housekeeping team in a hotel and we have to communicate with each other and our supervisors all the time so we know for example if a room needs to be done before another one if a guest has an early check in or vice versa, our supervisors want to know which rooms are done so then reception can start putting guests in to rooms. Then if theres an issue for example the TV doesn't work we then need to communicate to maintenance so they can come and fix it.

Commitment
Nursing is such a diverse career and by doing my degree i'm not restricting myself too much. And by doing this i know that if further down the line once i've qualified if mental health or learning disabilities was something that i was really passionate about then i know i can go and do that with this degree.
An example of this the fact that i'm a part time carer for my elderly grandparents and have been probably for the past 4 years now. They can be difficult at times and it's not easy when you have to repeat over and over again how to use the television but i'm committed to helping them and i wouldn't want it any other way.

Competence
I would say competence and being sure of yourself is vital when working in healthcare because you need to be confident in delivering effective treatment for your patients.
When I first started working at Rockliffe my manager Diane always made sure i was working with someone to make sure my work up to the 5* standard and as i worked there bit by bit i started getting more responsibility and progressed up to the point of them letting me do my rooms on my own and she trusts me to ensure that they will be up to standard and i very rarely get pulled up on anything.
