What: An evaluation of student learning and academic achievement
When: Happens at the end of learning (e.g. at the end of a unit, semester or school year)
Why: Summative assessments are used as evidence to show if a student has mastered the skills from a unit. These assessments provide data for teachers, schools, districts, and state, etc. This data can show us any gaps between student knowledge and learning targets, which can lead to improved or modified curriculums and/or learning goals.
