Graph a linear equation
How to use y=Mx+b
Bahaa Shalaby
What is “m”?
“M” is the
slope
of the equation of the line.
It is calculated as
rise/run
or
(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
.
It shows how
steep
the line is and its
direction
.
How to use the measures to graph a line
Step1: Use the y-intercept to plot the point on the y-axis.
Step 2: Use the slope to plate the rise and run and get the second point.
Step 3: Draw the line between the 2 points.
For example y=2x+3
Step 1:
Start by finding the y-intercept which is 0,3

Step 2:
We have to do rise/run, our rise is 2
so we go up 2 units and our run is 1 so that means we to the right 1 unit

Step 3:
Draw a line between the 2 points to draw the graph

What is “b”?
“B” is the
y-intercept
of the equation of a line.
It is the
point
that the line crosses the y
-axis.
It shows the
position
of the line

5 methods to graph a line
Using a table of values
Identify the ordered pairs, plot, then graph. Using a table of values will help you graph in a much more organized way, you can consider the table of values a graphic organizer

Using y=mx+b
To graph using y=mx+b, first plot the y-intercept (b), then Rise and Run using the slope (m). If you use this method the slope can be read of the graph

Example
Using 1 point and a slope
Plot the point given, Use the slope formula to identify the rise and the run, Starting at the given point, count the rise and run to mark the second point. Starting at the given point, Connect the points with a line. To use this method you would need to have the slope formula of the equation you are graphng.

Using two points
Plot both given points, and connect them to graph a line. Using two points is the simplest and easiest way to graph a line

Using a quadratic equation
solve the quadratic formula, then plot the points, then connect the points, and finally you can shade the graph (optional) this is to show where the solution can be found

How to Find Slope of a Line?
Magdy El Essawy
Equation of a line
Equation of a line is when the straight line is y=mx+b and that M is the slope and y=c is when it cuts to the y axis, and B is the Y intercept
Using slope formula
Using slope formula means subtracting second output(y2) by first output(y1), and then subtracting second input(x) by first input(x). Then you divide the first final answer by the second final answer.
Using Rise/Run on a slope
Using a fraction, such as 1/3, go up a number of steps according to the numerator, and to the right a number of steps according to the denominator.
