The Parable of the Lost Sheep
Part 1
Have we ever felt rejected by other people?
The more people feel rejected, the more chances of Jesus noticing you.
Why are we so precious to God?
Because we have sinned and gone astray.
We represent sheep who are easily influenced and lost.
God, like the shepherd, will not give up on finding people who are lost.
This tells us how God tried to keep us away from sin even though we often fall into temptation
As sheep, we are also unable to fight back against sin.
It will be more joyful to find someone who was lost rather than finding a group of people who were already found beforehand
At that time, lost sheep were usually stolen or just went away.
Bible verse (Luke 15:1-7)
After seeing Jesus together with sinners and tax collectors, the pharisees judged him for welcoming sinners. Because of that, Jesus decided to tell them this parable:“Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? 5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ 7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.”
Part 2
How does the Shepherd take care of the Sheep?
Sheeps will only listen to the Shepherd's voice, which means as we are sheep, we can only be saved by the Shepherd's (God's) voice.
The more we listen to God's words, the less chances we would fall into temptation to sin.
The more we think about the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, the more we will hesitate to sin.
Characteristics of a Sheep
Weak and helpless.
Likes to explore around aimlessly and gets lost easily.
Stubborn and wants everything to go in their way.
Sheeps do not have the ability to fend for themselves and to think for themselves.
Never thinks of the consequences of their actions
Shepherd's Job
Must know the names of every single of their sheep
Count them once a day at minimum
To protect the sheep after finding it, they will put the sheep on their shoulders and bring them home
Works for someone who has a lot of sheep.
God compared to a Shepherd
God will carry us on his shoulders like what shepherds would do to the lost sheep, and go back to where we are supposed to be.
God considers us as important because we are weak and helpless, like lost sheep, and it is not because of our good traits at all.
Jesus represents the barn door, the guardian of us who are sheep.
God represents a shepherd and guards us, the sheep, in front of the door.
God found finding us, the lost sheep, more joyful than everything else.
Because we meant something to Jesus, he calls us by our given names.
