Amino Acids and Peptides
Transcription
- Initiation - RNA polymerase binds to a promotor (recognition region before the gene) -> It denatures the gene locally
- Elongation - Polymerase unwinds the DNA & elongates the sequence with 3' to 5' -> the transcripts have the direction 5' to 3' -> It is a very fast process (20-50 bases/sec)
- Termination - The end of the DNA sequence is identified by th terminator sequence -> RNA transcript is released -> DNA strands re-associate

enantiomers - Mirror images of amino acids are isomers, they cannot be superimposed.
-
D-Amino acids - Rotate polarised light to the right (e.g. components of bacterial cell walls, Amphibian antimicrobial peptides).
