Assessments
Types of Assessments:
Formative: these are small "check-in's" that can happen throughout the class, or anything that can gauge what has been achieved throughout a lesson
These can be done daily, or periodically
-
These can be as simple as providing an in-class discussion, check-in's on independent work, etc
Authentic: these are tests beyond just standardize testing; these are tests where students are able to synthesize the information that has been taught in a creative and student-lead way
These assessments allow more from the student; they are the ones that lead this type of assessment, based on his/her understanding of the material
Students work with the instructor to create these assessments from the information provided in his/her own way
Summative: these are exams that have been created by the instructor that is given; these are usually graded exams or final projects and/or papers
-
These can also be created by the instructor, so things tend to be taught to match the "testing style" where students memorize more than synthesize the information
Cooperative Learning
This is the type of learning where students are working in small groups to complete a given assignment and/or task
-
Students can benefit from this type of work because lessons can be broken into chunks, allowing students to work in groups to complete a portion of the lesson.
This can allow them to develop new ways of processing information, as well as synthesizing information.
Sometimes it's easier for students to understand a skill or develop a problem-solving method from another student's perspective rather than just from the lesson plans from the teacher.
-
Constructivst Pedagogy
This is not a single type of learning style, rather is is an umbrella term for the many different styles of teaching that a teacher can develop based on his/her teaching style
Reciprocal Teaching
-
Allows more of the students taking the role of being the teacher throughout the lesson once the four skills have been mastered.
Students tend to lead small group discussion, allowing the students to develop skills in predicting, summarizing, questioning, and clarifying.
Inquiry Method
This is the type of teaching where a teacher provides information for the students to "memorize" for a test.
This method requires teachers to provide situations, where the student must solve the problems at hand.

Ultimately depends on the teacher and his/her teaching methods... would not be the same for ELA and math for example
