arthritis
- osteoarthritis : a painful condition that affects joint & result in the deterioration of the cartilage ( knees, hips, necks & back)
- rheumatoid arthritis : affected joints lose strength & function & are inflamed, swollen and painful (fingers)
- bursitis: shoulders & knees have fluid filled sacs called bursae that surround these joints, and decrease friction cause inflammation pain and swelling
- sprains : damage to the ligements

- joints occur where 2 or more bones meet
- the bones of joints are held together by ligaments
- ball & socket : widest range motion
- pivot : rotation
- hinge : back & forth motion
- gliding : side to side and back & forth movement
- suturates : not moveable
types of fractures
- simple fracture : when a bone breaks but doesn't come through the skin
- compound fractures : when a bone breaks and protrudes through the skin
- stress fracture : a thin crack in the bone

compact and spongy bone
- compact bone : compact bone is the outer layers of bones (dense and strong ) providing strength and protection
- spongy bone : is found at the center of short or flat bones and at the end of long bones and is less dense
bone marrow
- red bone marrow : red, white blood cells and platelets are produced in it
- yellow bone marrow : consists of stored fats
