Robotics Taking Over Human Skills, CIT 262 Final Project - Coggle Diagram
Robotics Taking Over Human Skills
Self Driving Cars (Julie)
Pros
Safe driving.
Less wrecks.
More cars going the speed limit.
No one would have to drive.
People who are handicap can still use the car for their convenience.
The car can go clean itself.
Car can go pick up your food orders.
If you get pulled over, you can blame it on the car. :)
If you get pulled over and go to jail, the car won't have to be towed. It can drive itself home.
Cons
Jobs will be lost.
Taxi drivers, uber drivers, limo drivers.
If there is a wreck, who would be at fault.
The insurance company
The owner of the car.
The Maker of the vehicle.
There could be a malfunction in the manufacturing.
The maker of the vehicles could be sued.
The owner's insurance would go up.
People could get hurt or killed.
It would cost more to get fixed due to more expensive and sensitive parts.
They cost more.
Car could get stolen.
Rise in unemployment rate (David)
High unemployment rate can be good and bad for the economy.
Pros
More jobs are available for workers.
In April of 2018, the unemployment rate fell 3.9% and almost 160,000 jobs became available.
Employers would be forced to raise their wages.
Cons
The economy would slow down
Smaller labor force
Interest rates spikes
Inflation
Medical robots (Jonah)
Robots can be given specific tasks
Robots can be tasked with cleaning and disinfecting rooms for staff safety.
Surgical robots can be made and be involved in surgeries. They aren't doing the surgeries themselves, but rather assisting the surgeon. This can be beneficial because robots have more precise movement than a human does.
Robots can move equipment around.
Kantianism- having robotics take over human skills only looks at the duties that a robot could do. Rather than look at the circumstances and consequences, which are people losing their jobs.
Act Utiliarianism- If robots were built to help humans out, rather than take over their jobs. Everyone would be satisfied in the development of robotics.
Rule Utiliarianism- When robotics take over human skills, it is only right to give the humans an opportunity to keep their jobs. If robotics start to take over to where there are barely any jobs for humans, it would be time to re-evaluate that.
Economic/social Impacts (Justin)
Critical Thinking/ Artificial mistakes
Logical/critical thinking is present in any task/job that is available. There will always be situations where you have to think on the fly and make a intuition based, logical choice outside of your own daily tasks. With AI, how do we regulate and monitor these moments? No code will be able to cover every conceivable possibility that can happen. Who is responsible for AI mistakes?
Social Impact
With the implementation of AI, we have to keep in mind the impacts to human social interaction. Although AI advances in communication are always happening, we do not know when they will be fully capable of maintaining a human level of social interaction.
Wealth that is generated by machines would need to be distributed to maintain the circulation of new money into the economy. Implementing privately owned AI to take over workforce jobs would deduct the human work force that is needed; Effecting the economy in detrimental ways.
