After the war
United States and The Soviet Union
emerged as leading world powers
For more than 40 years
engaged in a cold war
conflict never erupted in to a war
But the threat existed
Both sides stock piled nuclear weapons
in 1980s
Soviet influence began to weaken
Soviet Union
took control most of Eastern Europe
Germany was split in half
Britain and United States, and France in the west
Soviet Union in the east
ended when Soviet Union's
Government
collapsed in 1991
