Definition
Shortness in height hat result from a genetic or medical condition
CLINICAL MANIFESTATIONS
An average-size trunk
Short arms and legs
Short fingers
Limited movements of elbows
A disproportionately large head
Bowed legs
An adult height around 4 feet
CAUSES
Genetic change before start of pregnancy
In an egg or sperm cell
Genetic change inherited from one or both parents
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
The chronic inflammatory conditions have elevated proinflammatory cytokines
Which negatively impact the linear growth

Paracrine mechanisms-GH-IGF-1 axis is only one of the many regulatory pathways of height gain
Endocrine pathways-glucocorticoids inhibit chondrogenesis
Many autocrine and paracrine pathways are under research
Mutation of these can lead to short stature or tall stature
PHARMACOLOGICAL MANAGEMENT
of the hormone may increase final height
Surgery-may be advised to relieve pressure on the nervous system
Treatment with injections of a synthetic version
