what is hypophysectomy?
It is a surgical removal of the pituitary gland to treat cancerous or tumors, most of the reported tumors that are removed turned to be benign. As the pituitary gland produces hormones that regulates many things such as body growth, metabolism and sexual reproduction
It removes both the cancerous and non-cancerous tumors. Benign tumors are not cancerous but can grow cause headaches
Then cancerous tumors are removed mainly to prevent the cancer from spreading to other body parts. Operation can be longer and sometimes come with serious risks such as severe bleeding and development of infection. If the gland is destroyed during operation, then leaves endocrine without regulation. In case this happen the person must get hormone replacement therapy.
