Every Day - Coggle Diagram

- - - - Rhiannon is a girl who goes to high school and is dating a boy named Justin. She eventually falls in love with A's being and makes attempts to be with A even after they switch bodies and even genders.
    - - A is a being that takes character of a new body each day. A isn't given a specific gender, so they can inhabit a boy or girl's body. Typically A takes up a body within a two hour radius of each other and around the same age. After taking over Justin's body (Rhiannon's Boyfriend), A makes every attempt to see Rhiannon with the other characters that they inhabit.
    - - A book-worm type of boy who is controlled by A for one day. The day that A is within him, he ends up lying to his parents and going to a party--something he'd never do on his own. After the party, he is awakened by a police officer because he was pulled over on the side of the road in his car sleeping. Because Nathan had no idea where he was or why, he assumes that he has been possessed by the devil and goes on a chase to figure out who or why this had happened.
- - - - Purpose
        
        Every chapter is a new day with a new person, but almost every time the author repeats the same outcome of A meeting Rhiannon because of their longing to be with her.
      - Example
        
        On page 242, A' s host body is a boy named Michael who is leaving for Hawaii to go to his sisters wedding. In order for A to ever see Rhiannon again, they have to make Michael skip his sisters wedding so A can stay within range of Rhiannon while they switch host bodies.
      - Example
        
        On page 173, A wakes up in Adam Cassidy's body. Adam has a car, so A takes this opportunity to see Rhiannon. In order for Adam to get out of school, A calls the office and fakes a doctor's appointment. This is a dangerous decision because it could potentially get Adam Cassidy in trouble when A is no longer in control of him.
    - - Example
        
        "A sound waiting to be a word" on page 5 describes the feeling that Rhiannon is expressing. This metaphor shows how A already has deep understanding of Rhiannon before they have even been in contact for a period of time.
      - Purpose
        
        David Levithan uses metaphors within the book to emphasize feelings of the characters and their fascination of one another.
      - Example
        
        "Threaded with hooks" on page 5 is used to describe words that are coming out of Justin's mouth. This metaphor is an example of Rhiannon's idea that her boyfriend, Justin is lying to her face.
- - - - Purpose
        
        The author never gives A a specific sexuality or gender. Even as A wakes up in different bodies each day, Rhiannon sill falls in love with them because they are still A inside.
      - Example
        
        On page 253, A wakes up in the body of Vic. Vic was biologically born a female but is now gendered a male. This still isn't an obstacle for Rhiannon as she mentions her love for A when they go out to eat.
      - Example
        
        On page 274, Rhiannon mentions how she can see A within each host he inhabits. This is why she continues to meet up with A even as he is Finn Taylor who is a completely different host than the others that A has taken place in.
    - - Example
        
        Imagery is used on page 272 when A is Vic and explains that,"The chairs are wobbly underneath me at the bookstore's cafe. I decide to walk the aisles instead, but they're too narrow, and I keep knocking things off the shelves. The reader is given a good image of what Vic looks like and Rhiannon still manages to meet up with Vic despite his size.
      - Example
        
        On page 248, Michael thinks to himself after his fight with Justin, "If before I was a big, hairy, sweaty guy in a Metallica T-Shirt, now I ma a big, hairy, sweaty guy in a Metallica T-Shirt who's beaten, bruised, and bleeding. On that same page, Rhiannon isn't afraid to make an appearance around this guy who was so horrifically described.
      - Purpose
        
        David Levithan uses imagery to help expose the characters to the readers. He does this to express the idea that looks shouldn't be as big of a factor to being with a person as to what is within that specific person.
