Leads people who have mental illnesses to easily fall through the cracks every day. Families fail to see any reason to help their loved on when early signs of mental illness begin to show at early ages.
Mental illness is a long road. Acceptance of all parties involved is key in recovery. Every step is dependent on which state an individual lives, how much money and other resources there are, and how much support is offered to those who need it in moments of crisis.

Defying classification. Mentally ill individuals who alternate between periods of peace and dramatic chaos with little warning, or who show warning signs that others fail to see.
There are differences in clinical assessments and professional diagnosis that can be disagreed with. This can lead to someone have multiple diagnoses. There can be stigma associated with classifying mental health and parents to young people may over identify or under identify with an illness model.
Leads to individuals to retreat further into themselves, theories, and obsessions.
