A. Definition

In procedure texts the focus is on systemically explaining a logal sequence of action or steps. There are some different procedure texts serving different purposes. Recipe is one of the common procedural texts. A recipe is a list of ingredients and a set of instructions that tell you how to cook something.

B. Social Function

The followings are the social function of recipe;

  1. Recipe is used to describe how food is completely made or cooked through a sequence of series.
    
  1. Communicative purpose of recipe is to describe how food is completely made through a sequence of actions or steps.
    

C. Generic Structures

The followings are the generic structure of procedure texts:

  1. Goal/aim
    

This part of the text describes the purpose of doing or operating something.

  1. Materials/equipments
    

This part describes the materials or equipments needed in the process of doing or operating something. It is important to note that some of procedure texts do not provide materials section.

  1. Steps/methods
    

This part describes the set of instructions in order to achieve the goal.

D. Language Features

  1. Using simple present tense
    
  1. Using adverbial of sequence.
    
  1. Using imperative sentence
    
  1. Using noun or group of noun
