Personal Response
We think that this book makes us value all the things that life gives us, for example freedom. Freedom is not appreciated so much and it is one of the most important things in life.
Also, it teaches us to value family. We must value all those moments spent with them and be more grateful for what life gave us.
Writters Effect
What Anne Holm wants to transmit to us is to value all the things in life. The importance of having a family that supports you at all times, and that they are always for you. It's a Heartwarming story of a young boy who escaped a Communist prison camp and his experiences on his journey to Denmark to find his meaning of life Fantastic ending with an unexpected twist, also Describing an emotional struggle of a boy trying to fit in with a strange and hostile world. It displays a level of maturity vastly unfamiliar in young boys of David's age. This story perfect opportunity to show kids the evils that are in the world, but also that good will always triumph in the end.
