So even if you have all of those dispositional AND environmental risk factors, e.g., the emotional part of the brain developing faster than the controlling brain area, or if you have impulsive traits etc., these risk factors can be lessened by protective factors (e.g., reduce your impulsive traits), they can limit exposure to drugs (so keep substances away from the impulsive adolescent, or the adolescent who has their emotional brain area developed), can delay initiation (again, stop them from accessing drugs), or curb use (help them not use it at all, even though they have all these risk factors, the protective factors can help them not ever use substances)
