vagina- passageway for blood during mensuration, birth canal, receives penis
uterus- nourish and develop fetus
fallopian tubes- where fertilization occurs
cervix- facilitates passageway of sperm into uterine canal

male
FSH- controls production of sperm
LH- causes testicles to produce testosterone
testosterone - regulates sex drive, bone mass, fat distribution
female
GnRH- causes pituitary gland to secrete hormones
FSH- helps control menstural cycles and stimulate growth in eggs
LH- helps control menstrual cycle
Estrogen- sexual development
Progesterone- prepares endometrium for potential pregnancy after ovulation
Events of female hormonal cycle
menstruation- occurs for one to five days. bleeding occurs and decline in estrogen and progesterone
follicular phase- occurs for one to fourteen days. beginning of menstruation until ovulation, follicular cells secrete estrogen
luteal phase- occurs for fifteen to twenty eight days. follicle expels oocyte, empty shell becomes corpus luteum.
ovulation- occurs day 14. spike increase in LH, releases the oocyte, rise in progesterone

syphillis- infection that can cause an STI
genital herpes- STD caused by two infections
chlamydia- STD that affects both men and women
gonorrhea- STD that can affects both men and women
