MANUFACTURES AND INDUSTRIES
OLD TRADITION
Since ancient times, human societies i learned to produce manually wood, clay and metals were used to produce home decoration. As the societies grew, the establishments also expanded and they were called manufactures. In Ecuador, there are small and medium industries in all regions.
SMALL INDUSTRY AND CRAFTS
The craft activity is concentrated in the areas of textiles and clothing. Small or micro-enterprises are part of family businesses, with a high participation of women, and complement the family income that comes from other sectors, such as industry. Small family businesses are located, above all, in business and services. They are the result of the effort of people who are underemployed and looking for work. Formal economic activity increasingly offers fewer jobs due to the use of labor-saving technologies.
MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY
Sugar industry
Three large mills dominate the national market market: San Carlos, Valdez and La Troncal, located in the provinces of Guayas and Cañar.
Brewing industry
It is one of the traditional activities of the country. Today there are many small craft breweries, while Cervecería Nacional Company belongs to a transnational conglomerate
Wood Industry
This is an industrial sector, as few companies control the majority of sales. The activity of this sector is controversial, since causes the deforestation of the emerald and Amazon forests.
Footwear industry
In Pichincha there are 28 small industries; on Tungurahua 25, in Guayas 3; in Cotopaxi 3; and 1 in Chimborazo. The 12 large footwear companies are concentrated, above all, in Pichincha, which has 7.
Dairy industry
This agribusiness is aimed at provision of the national market. There are great companies. Its wide expansion forces it project to the neighborhood market countries, especially Venezuela.
Textile industry
Textile activity is mainly concentrated in the provinces of Pichincha and Guayas. Both types of the companies supply the national market. They are even marketed abroad.
Automotive industry

Food and beverage industry
It is the most important branch of activity in the manufacturing industry. It is the one with the most workers. This, added to the refining of oil and fuel and to the extraction of crude oil and natural gas, represents 67% of the total production of Ecuador. These activities aren concentrated in Guayas, Pichincha and Sucumbíos.
Housing and construction industry
It is characterized by its dynamism, influenced by oil exports. It requires a large supply of migrant workers.
FISHING INDUSTRY AND ARTISINAL FISHING
As well as in factories for the packaging and processing of fishmeal and fish oil. Its sales are mainly made in the international market; However, the national agricultural industry requires a large amount of fishmeal, but it is contribution to production is less than industrial.
