This protest has left a legacy on Maori lives and Maori protests forever, this was the first land protest in the Maori community. A huge influence has come from this event, showing the youth of New Zealand that they too, can speak up and protest for what they believe in. This event still effects Maori lives today, especially Ngati Whatua, the protest was a make or break situation for their iwi, if the protest was unsuccessful and the land was to be subdivided and built on, they would've lost that land and been landless, therefore the tribe would have had nothing left and it would've crumbled. However since the protest was a huge success for them, their iwi thrives today and Bastion Point has been developed the way that they wanted it to be and they still live up there and so do the memories attached to the land.
