- - - - A promising strategy for the Allies seemed to be to attack a region in the Ottoman Empire known as the Dardanelles.
        
        This narrow sea strait was the gateway to the Ottoman capital, . By securing the Dardanelles, the Allies believed that they could take Constantinople and establish a supply line to Russia.
        
        The effort to take the Dardanelles strait began in February 1915. It was known as the Gallipoli campaign.
        
        Turkish troops, vigorously defended the region.
        
        Both sides dug trenches, from which they battled for the rest of the year. In December, the Allies gave up the campaign. The suffered about 250,000 casualties.

        A. This is because the Russians didn't have hardly any Supplies. For every gun, their were about 3 soldiers.

        Concept, Escalation. This relates to escalation because the German Submarines were sinking American ships left and right which was making the anger between Germany and the Americans begin to rise. Then the Zimmerman note sent things overboard.
        
        Q. How did the Zimmerman note draw America into the war.
        
        A. the reason this drew them into the war was because before the zimmerman note, the German Submarines had sunk a ship that killed 128 U.S citizens, then sunk 3 more American ships. This was already pulling them closer to war, then The Germans sent a note to Mexico that said that they would help them take back the land that the Americans had taken from them. This did not make the Americans happy.

        The Allied powers on the other hand had firm grip of the sea and even though they almost lost in 1942, they were able to recover and reverse the gains the Axis had made.
        
        With a firm grip of the sea, the Allied took control of Axis routes therefore cutting their supplies and shipping of war goods.

On November 11, World War I came to an end
