        When people invaded territory they went through peoples land and did not car since they were the opposing enemy. Tank could plow through anything which probably caused the most destruction through farmlands.

        Why did the wartime governments take control of their countries' economies?
        
        They took over because they were running low on supplies and they needed them realy badly for war.
        
        Unemployment disappeared in European countries because they put everybody to work in factories.
      - There were many shortages in goods so they began rationing.
        
        People could only buy small amounts of goods at a time.
        
        How did Total War lead to rationing?
        
        It lead to rationing because the government took over factories and made them start producing what they needed. So, instead of producing goods they were producing ammo or anything else they needed.
        
        Governments began to suppress antiwar activites by using propoganda. Which is when the government gave one-sided information to help persuade, to keep up morale and support for the war.

      - Women and the War
        
        The government turned to women for help in factories, stores, and offices.
        
        They built tanks, muntions, and plowed fields.
        
        Women got to see the horror of the war firsthand.

        Women had to start working in factories, shops, etc since the men went to war.
- - - - Many of Germany's colonial possessions in Africa and Asia started to get attacked by varius allied groups. Japan, Enlgans, and France were all a part of this.
    - - After German U-Boats attacked several American ships, America was very ticked off.
        
        It wasn't until the Zimmerman note, that America finally joined the allies and declared war on Germany
        
        How did the Zimmerman Note draw America into the war?
        
        The Zimmerman note was a note from Germany's foreign secretary, Arthur Zimmerman. The note was for Mexico, asking them to ally with Germany. If Mexico accepted, than Germany was supposedly going to help them reconquer America. This obviously made America mad, and pushed them over the edge.

    - - The Allies wanted to take over the Dardanelles, located in the Ottoman Empire. British, Australian, New Zealand, and French troops started their way to Constantinople. This was called the Gallipoli Campaign.
        
        Why did the Allies want to establish a supply line to Russia?
        
        They wanted to establish a supply line to Russia, so that they could get more resources for battle.
        
        The allies were unsuccessful, and eventually retreated after about 250,000 casualties.

- - - - In March 1917, Civil unrest occurred in Russia. This was caused mostly by war-related shortages of food and fuel
        
        Forced Czar Nicholas to step down, and in his place a provisional government was established. The new government pledged to continue fighting the war.
        
        Eight months after the new government took over, a revolution shook Russia.
        
        What effect did the Russian Revolution have on Russia’s role in World War I?
        
        The Russian Revolution caused Russia to create a civil war on themselves which used up a lot of their needed and already scarce supplies.
        
        In November 1917, Communist leader Vladimir Ilyich Lenin seized power. Lenin insisted on ending his country’s involvement in the war.
        
        One of his first acts was to offer Germany a truce. In March 1918, Germany and Russia signed the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk,which ended the war between them.
      - At this time nearly 5.5 million soilders were eith wounded, killed or taken prisoner.
    - - Russia’s withdrawal from the war at last
        allowed Germany to send nearly all its forces to the Western Front.
        
        As in the opening weeks of the war, the German forces
        crushed everything in their path.
        
        Soon, the Central Powers began to crumble.
        
        First the Bulgarians and
        then the Ottoman Turks surrendered.
        
        How did the surrender of the Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria and the revolution in Austria-Hungary lead to the end of World War I?
        
        When they surrendered it left Germany alll by themselves against the allies. The Germans couldnt sustain all sides with no help.
