Types of Drug Reaction
Type A
-
Induced by the same pharmacological mechanisms as the therapeutic effect; by an increase of the therapeutic or other pharmacological effects of the drug.
It is directly dose-dependent, or plasma concentration dependent
It is predictable, with respect to clinical manifestation and probability of onset
-
-
Interventions:
-
Mild case, dose reduction
Type B
-
There is no direct relationship to the dose of the drug or the pharmacological mechanism of drug action
-
Have serious clinical outcomes, with higher overall mortality
Interventions are instant drug withdrawal and symptomatic treatment (e.g. antihistamines and adrenalin)
Type C
-
-
Mostly the accumulation is not immune, but is functional and/or ultrastructural changes induced by a drug
-
Type E
-
-
To prevent, avoid abrupt withdrawl
