PESTLE
Political
Changes to curriculum
Teachers need to be kept up to date, to ensure correct content is being taught
-
Local Elections
Changes to political / funding environment. College needs to be flexible enough to change with the environment
-
-
Immigration
-
Could add new cultural POV's to the college giving students a change to learn about different cultures
-
EU funding
No longer have this funding, means we have less to invest into the college. But this could make us more financially independent
BREXIT
Fewer global students from the EU, with fewer number of our students going to EU colleges. But this opens up wider global opportunities
Make EU based trips more costly, however this cost could be factored into how much students are charged
Economic
Limited College Places
Less students means less DOE funding. If we are at capacity, this means our DOE funding cannot grow.
-
But we are doing something right as a college when demand is this high. We need the college to grow to meet this demand
-
Key Staff Leaving
-
Some teachers are highly specialized (UPS) and would be hard to find equivalents. this could lead to lower teaching levels.

Socio-Cultural
Spoken language
-
English may not be students first language, resources need to be in place to deal with it.

-
Population Demographics
More young people means more students, fewer older people means less adult students
-
Social Meida

-
allows us to market and tailor content to individual segments directly ensuring we are providing them value and moving them along the customer journey
We are not able to use rising channels effectively due to college policy (TikToK & Youtube). This needs to be adressed
Technology
-
Cloud Learning
-
-
How will this impact going forward? Snow days, illness, summer catch up lessons
-
Hardware
Do we have the correct up to date hardware needed to run courses. Are PC's powerful enough, do we have enough macs?
-
-
-
Software
The adobe suit is expensive but vital for creative departments and marketing. Free alternatives not viable due to Adobe being industry standard and needing to be taught.
-
There is currently only 3 people trained to update the website. This can cause backlogs and slow response to changes. More people could be trained
Streamyard is vital software needed for live stream hosting. It is low cost but offer limited functionality.
Internet
-
Google classroom is a easy way to share resources with students, however some are just using drive
Questions as to if the college network can handle the planned use of live stream technology. Testing is being done in terms of hosting soloutions
The new E-sports course will could have a impact on the college network in terms of bandwidth. Ideas such as segregated networks need to be explored

Merger
Merging with highbury creates a lot of unknowns in the short term that can affect the stability of the college in terms of learning and staff. It is vital people are kept up to date about the plan to ensure a smooth transition
We still don't know much in terms of branding and the message the new college want to put out, and importantly how it relates to the current college. To effectively market the new college we need to understand what it is we are marketing
We have to focus on the college short term goals, and at this stage it is unclear what the long term goals of the new college will be
Space
As of 2020 the college was at max capacity for 16-19 students with plan to build new buildings canceled due to the merger. This means for 2021/22 the college will still be operating at maximum capacity
Carbon Footprint
The building of the college is very old and as a result there is a lot of waste when it comes to energy. i.e lack of double glazing on some windows means we use more heat. Plus due to covid doors and windows have to left open pushing this issue futher
-
Weather
College continues to face issues with Ice and Snow. When it is Icey one of the main paths into the college is not safe making taval for some very difficult. In the event of snow the automatic doors do not function properly and wont open. These issues can be worked around with improvements with online learning.
Due to COIVD water machines around the college cannot be used. It has been flagged this may be a issues in terms of hydration for staff and students could be impacted. The cost of supplying bottled water would have to be examined
Travel
The change of price across all of the public transport in the city will have a impact on the college bus routes. Unless the college can absorb the cost, the college may have to absorb it.
Due to COVID busses currently have limited capacity meaning extra busses may have to put in place to ensure all students can get to college on time
Pathways leading to the college via eastern road become unsafe in the winter, this could be resolved by opening the side gate, but this could be a security risk
More space is needed to store bikes with the shed nearly at capacity every day. If we want more students to ride in more space will be needed.
electric scooters are popular with students, but actually illegal to ride without a driving licence. The college will have to be vigilant when it comes to checking who is allowed to ride and who not. A blanket ban may best considering the college do not have a way to store them
Legal
IP & Copyright
Online protection of copyright is being enforced more vigilantly and the college has to follow laws across also parts of the business. Staff involved with online media often use copyright material in content without knowing the rules and risks. Better training in these aspects would resoulve this issue
Changing copyright laws with creative courses, Art, Music, IT code. Who owns the rights to students work needs to be clearly defined as this grey area is exposed.
Changing definitions of what constitutes fair use in a educational environment. While not abundantly clear teachers and students can use copyrighted content in educational circumstances if it is transformative. We have to make sure people know what this means
Staff illegally sourcing video content and uploading said content to college networks. These actions are being tracked more, teachers need to be aware that cannot do this. There are sources they can use such as BoB, and need to be made aware off
Data Protection
The College data protection policy is updated year on year and staff need to be made more aware of it. Especially when using social media content. Getting staff to sign an agreement may help this
Permission and consent have to be in the forefront when taking photos or creating media that gets used publicly. Outside the marketing department content gets created and used without following rules. The college can get in serious trouble with this.
