Belief that bodies that look lean are seen as contributable to society, while the opposite are seen as drains to society (drain on health care)
Fatness is now attributed to morality, but that is not accurate, especially with the invention of indulgent routes to leanness (like surgery or certain diets). People also now take unhealthy routes to leanness in order to change their image. People that are fat are seen as people that don't self-govern, but people that are lean are seen as people that do self-govern, without looking deeper.
Insurance companies sent brochures about preventative care. They highlight costs of preventative care vs. long term care for chronic conditions, such as diabetes. They set the stage for higher costs and denial of coverage for those who don't comply with healthy pursuits. Those remaining healthy are seen as superior.
