Respiratory system - Coggle Diagram
Respiratory system
Components of respiratory system
Nose
Helps inhale air
Mouth
Helps inhale air and ingest food.
Pharynx
Is also known as the throat and in this area air or food may pass through
Larynx
Leads to the wind pipe and also acts as the vioce box
Trachea
Wind pipe
Bronchi
A branch like structure of pipes that takes the air to bronchioles
Bronchioles
More branch like pipes that takes the air to aveoli
Alvioli
A sack like structure in which oxygen comes in, which is then exchanged with the blood cells in the capillary with carbon dioxide. This carbon dioxide is exhaled.
Epiglottis
Moves up and down to block the Larynx when air is not being breathed, if it does not close, food or water will get into the respiratory system
Conchae
Filters air that is breathed in through the nose and humdifies it
Diaphram
Contracts and relaxes the lungs with the help of other muscles. The diaphragm contracts to expand the lungs when you breathe in and relaxes when you breathe out. It is the most important muscle in the respiratory system as it controls the breathing process as lungs don't have muscles of their own.
Lungs
Lungs are part of the respiratory system and are group of organs and tissue that work together to help you breathe
Ways to maintain or improve respiratoey health
Maintain a helathy weight
When you maintain a healthy weight, the respiratory muscles won't get compressed, hence reducing the stress on your lungs
Drink a lot of water
This prevent mucus becoming sticky in airways, reducing the chance of making it hard to breathe
Consume food rich is vitamins, mineral and anti oxidents
This will help prevent inflamation in airways
Maintian good hygene
Prevent over consuming alcohol as it dehydrates the body and weakens the immune system
Exercise regularly
When you exercise regularly, more oxygen reaches your cells when the blood flow increases due to increased breathing and more movement.
Functions of respiratory system
Transporting air in and out of lungs
Procting body again harmful particles that are inhaled
Eg. Dust, pollen
Exchange of Carbon Dioxide and Oxygen
Takes oxygen to cells so that they can perform cellular respiration
