Fossil Fuels
Energy Resources
Fossil fuels - coal, oil, and gas are all of limited amounts. Cant be replaced.
Nuclear fuels - Limited amounts of uranium for nuclear fission reactors but reprocessing is possible. Safety technology system is important.
Difficult to estimate how long these fuels will last. But is it sustainable economically or environmentally?
Renewable energy resources are being replaced / generated at the same rate that they are being utilised. Hence they will last indefinitely.
Overview of Energy Resources
Currently, energy primarily comes from combustion of fossil fuels
Electricity is energy carrier, not primary sources
In some areas of the world, wind energy is being significantly developed: Europe, US, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, India, China
Energy sources are so critical for civilizations that many worse have been fought over these resources
Lack of common local energy sources can hold back the development of a nation
Types
Coal, Oil and Natural Gas. All of it comes from the underground in similar ways. The fossil fuels supply about 90% of the world energy.

Coal
Side Effect of Burning Fossil Fuels
Increases carbon dioxide in the atmosphere which causing the
GREENHOUSE EFFECT
, leads to
GLOBAL WARMING
.
Some fossil fuels contain
SULPHUR
and when they burn this becomes
SULPHUR DIOXIDE
, a poisonous gas which reacts with water in the atmosphere to form
SULPHURIC ACID
or
ACID RAIN
