There were also constant bullets and artillery fire giving every soldier a risk of death all the time in the trenches
There were no proper places for soldiers to sleep meaning any little rest they would get would be hard

Because of the muddy ground and huge amount of people the trenches were a perfect place for rats and lice to live and infest

Disease was at a huge high as well because of the rats and unhygienic conditions for example trench foot is a very well known disease soldiers had in the trenches which is when somebody's foot would start rotting which leads to it having to be cut off.

food eaten by soldiers
During the war the diet of soldiers would just be Water, canned beef, bread and biscuits
This food will not be enough for soldiers to live the way they were but there was a limited amount of food that could get to soldiers.
To make matters worse for soldiers eventually flour was in short supply and was replaced with dry turnips

On Christmas day soldiers from both sides had a truce, played football and treated each other like friends on a Christmas day. Then the day after they were having war again.

Medical conditions
Diseases were easily spread from soldier to soldier because they were often close and stated earlier there were lots of rats and lice with no place to get medical help
