Obesity
Abnormal accumulation of body fat.
Usually 20% or more over an individuals ideal weight
Associated with increased risk of illness, disability and death
Caused by:
-Often eating high in fat or processed foods
-Not eating enough unrefined carbohydrates, fruit or veggies
-Drinking to much
Occurs due to:
-Lack of exercise
-Incorrect food choices
-Consuming too large of quantities
-Energy intake/expenditure
-Lifestyle balance
Obesity can cause excess body weight which leads to larger risk of illness (e.g. Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease)
Cardiovascular Disease (CVD)
Refers to conditions that involve narrowed or blocked blood vessels, which leads to:
-heart attack
-chest pain
-stroke
Caused by:
-Fats containing LDL and HDL
LDL- low density lipoprotein
HDL- high density lipoprotein
Symptoms:
Extreme fatigue, dizziness, fast/irregular heart rate, chest pain, breathing difficulty, restlessness and loss of appetite.

-High blood pressure
-High cholesterol
-Heart attack
-Arteriosclerosis
Prevented by:
-Exercise and reduce saturated fat intake
-Control blood pressure and weight
-Reduce salt intake
-Eat healthy
Type 2 Diabetes
Type 2 Diabetic is a non-insulin dependent
Controlled by:
-Diet and exercise
-Genetic links
Caused by:
-Highly processed carbohydrates
-Sugar sweetened drinks
-Saturated and trans fats
-Red and processed meats

-Foods that are low GI
Symptoms:
-excessive urination and thirst
-tiredness
-itchy skin
-blurred vision
-mood swings
-dizziness
