Cutting a curve from a single block
A curved cut from a piece of wood using a saw
Advantages
Is more time consuming
Can be expensive if bought from a store
Can be done using a bandsaw, jigsaw, or coping saw
Disadvantages
Creates lots of waste
Messes up the grain pattern
Loses strength and durability
Kerf bending
When cutting lots of slots into a piece of wood allowing it to bend
Advantages
Easy for making wide or tall parts
Almost any saw can be used
Leaves behind a nice pattern
Disadvantages
Only looks good from the front
Greatly weakens the piece
It can snap under its own weight
Laminating Wood
The process of stacking multiple sheets of veneers or wood chippings to make lightweight work pieces
Advantages
Protects against a process called creep
It doesn't cause to piece of timber to become weak
It's an eco friendly process
Disadvantages
Unless done well glue between the laminates will show
Spring back can occur
Lots of waste is produced
Steam Bending
A technique where steam is used
to make wood pliable
Advantages:
Reduces your carbon footprint
Doesn't produce lots of waste
Strong and flexible
Disadvantages:
May lose its shape after some time
Pieces can break if there are problems with the grain
Its a time consuming process
