Short Stature - Coggle Diagram

- - - - usually AI thyroiditis
      - when txed catchup growth rapidly occurs, but often a rapid entry into puberty limits final height
    - - can be isolated defect or secondary to panhypopituitarism
      - craniopharyngioma
        
        usually presents in late childhood

        papilloedema
      - hypothalmic tumour
      - head injury
      - cranial irradiation

      - bone age delayed
    - - usually iatrogenic
        
        reduced by alternate day tx
        
        possible even in low doses of topical/inhaled steroids
      - non-iatrogenic v unusual
        
        pit/adrenal pathology
      - a/w excess weight gain
      - normalisation of body shape + height after tx
      - if occurs during puberty can result in permanent height loss
    - - defective GH Rs - absolute GH insensitivity
      - low IGF-1
  - - - difficult to dx clinically
      - should be considered in all short females
    - - unusual facial characteristics, short stature, heart defects
    - - IUGR, poor growth after birth, relatively large head size, triangular facial appearance, prominent forehead, body asymm, feeding difficulties
    - - imprinting disorder
      - early hypotonia, short stature, obesity, ID
