Love
Joe - Mutual respect, brotherly love, nonsexual, caring,
Joe and Mrs. Gargary are polar opposites. Joe loves Pip, and would never dream of punishing him. Mrs. Gargary is the opposite of Joe. She loves Joe, maybe, but she is open about how she is "stuck with Pip." She wants to get rid of him.

Joe is a humble, caring, giant. Joe will always care for Pip, no matter what he does. Joe is a kind and caring soul, he will always forgive whatever his family does, and will cherish them still.
Havisham and Estella - Controlling, vengeful, obsession, driven by hate and anger.
Pip's definition of gentlemenship changes after he goes to Miss Havisham's house. It changes to be richer, or more flautulent. To be a gentleman is to be rich. This happens because Pip meets Estella, and wants to impress her.
Definitions of love: Caring about people who love you - Giving up free will (Havisham) - Pip impress Estella, wants love like a substance, she is just pretty, infatuation, lust, urns, unconditional.

Pip - Loves Estella in an only sexual way, he hates her but loves her for her beauty. He is miserable around her, but cannot get away.

Mrs. Joe and Joe - Infant love, his upbringing, knows no else, not really love.
Mrs. Gargary hates Pip for seemingly no reason. Joe hinted at Mrs. Gargary's traumatic past, but nothing is clearly defined other than their parents being dead. Mrs. Gargary must be battling something bad in her mental space to take it out on Pip.

Gentlemen
Pip: changed the way he thought of himself - wanted to get a better education - degraded himself rather than calling Estella a brat.

He wanted to change after he saw her which is more on the positive side, but she also talked about him badly which is more negative.

The finches of the grove and drummle claim they are gentlemen because they have the class. The finches of the grove are all terrible people who are doped up on money, they are not true gentlemen like Joe.

Herbert and Wemmick, Herbert in Pip's words "too nice" and the division between Wemmick at office and Wemmick at Walworth, completely different people. Kind and caring at home, indifferent and professional at workplace.
At the beginning of the book, Pip is not a gentlemen, he is not educated, he is rude, and he is self absorbed. He has the class, but not the attitude.
Joe is not a gentlemen, but he has the personality of one. He is kind, a true gentlemen.

Pip interacts with Joe on a daily basis, he is Pip's leading inspiration for character development in himself.
This character has a positive influence on Pip, Joe is the rolemodel for Pip.
