4.How well do equity and tournament models apply? Do custom and tradition play any role? What about institutional theory?
Based on our observation, we think that the equity theory and tournament theory are apply in this case study which is orchestra.
We can see from the equity theory that the orchestra paid its players equally based on their ability to play the instruments.
For example, there are many rates for violin player and their pay are different from each other according to their skills in playing violin. It shows that the employers is pay which fairness because it based on the abilities and instruments.
By this pay structure serves as a kind of motivate for the players. They will improve their skill in playing instruments if they want to be paid at a higher rate.
The higher of the wages and rate, the more the instrumentalist would struggle to obtain it. They will put more effort, improve the skills, and earn the spot for shine in their work.
Describe orchestra's pay structure in terms of levels, differentials, and job or person based approach
Differential
The pay is determined by knowledge or skills involved, working condition, demand and value addition to the organization.
Pay based approach
Orchestras are paid based on their skills, abilities and knowledge they have.
An individual are also paid for all the certified skills which they worked for over the years and for all the money spend to get the certificate.
Levels
The highest level orchestras indicate they are skillful and experienced orchestras. So they are paid more than the lower level. For example, principal viola I and principal viola II are paid above $3000 but violin III, violin II and violin I are paid below $3000.
The entire orchestra is structured on a single pay model.
Pay structure based on hierarchical nature because the pay structure possess structure different characteristic.
What is the pay differential between principal viola and next highest paid viola? Why aren't they larger? Smaller? Why ia the differential between players different than between viola players?
Trumpet and viola players get different payment because:
Playing trumpet could be more technical and complicated than playing viola

Different skills, abilities, and knowledge in different part
Miltonic, Newman & Barry:
Increase pay enhance the performance of employees and reduce absenteeism.
