if no family hx, NAI often suspected

40% present as neonate - ICH, post-circumcision/heelprick/ venepuncture bleeding
Tx
recombinant VIII for A, recomninant IX for B by IV infusion whenever there's bleeding

home tx encouraged, teach parents

Desmopressin (trade name DDAVP) can be used for mild haemophilia A, not B

comps of tx
-
transfusion transmitted infections (Hep A,B,C, HIV, prions)

AVOID IM INJECTIONS, ASPIRIN + NSAIDS
Lab tests

biochemical screen, incl RFTs + LFTs
in neonates (esp premies) all clotting factor levels except factor VIII + fribrinogen are lower - consider testing both parents
