In his attitude towards religion, George Orwell has been characterised in various terms as an agnostic, humanist, secular saint or even Christian atheist.
- During the 1930s there was an economic slowdown in the world, called The Great Depression.
-The Soviet Union implemented a series of five-year plans for industrialization and economic development
- There was the “laissez-faire system,” a practice characterized by an abstention from direction or interference especially with individual freedom of choice and action; a doctrine that opposes government interference in political affairs.
-Orwell's family wasn´t rich, in his preparatory he was distinguished among others by his intelligence and poverty.
Anti-Catholicism: He talked about the objective truth, examining the ideologies of the right and the left in the light of lived experience and reason, he said he achieved this without the illumination provided by faith and the Catholic Church.
Orwell was an agnostic who recognized that the Western civilization owed much to Christianity, but he said that faith wasn´t important in the lives of human beings.
In 1938 he was diagnosed with tuberculosis, he had several treatments and experts said that " it (having tuberculosis) may have influenced his book "1984" in the depiction of the tortures of Winston Smith in the Ministry of Love".By having the disease, he showed in his writings the suffering of humans.
Orwell was influenced by Plato because many of his ideas like the ones in "The Republic" were taken up by him in the development of his worls, also he was influenced by Immanuel Kant.
He was influenced by the experiences he had, being in the war, having ilness and being in a demanding school.

Orwell went to the Spanish civil war, for him, war is a necessary adjunct to politics, and the utility of strategic action should be based on rational considerations of cost and benefit. A careful reading of his written work reveals a coherent appreciation of war’s strategic dimension.
Eight years after his diagnosis, depressed by his wife’s death, Orwell moved to a windy and damp Scottish island. His health worsened significantly just as he was working on the first draft of "1984", which clearly affected this literary piece

The rise to power of dictators such as Adolf Hitler in Germany and Joseph Stalin in the Soviet Union inspired Orwell’s mounting hatred of totalitarianism and political authority
During the Spanish Civil War, he witnessed the atrocities committed by fascist political regimes against society
