Causes of deforestation in Brazil
Cattle Ranching (80%)
Cattle ranching is the leading cause of Brazil's deforestation problem
The reason for its utter devastation on the rain forest leans towards the fact that cleared land could only sustain herds for a limited period of time as the quality of pasture declines. The cattle would need to be moved shortly after, repeating the process
Logging (3%)
Also known as the highest resource exploiting activities in the rainforest
There consist of 2 types of logings:
Selective logging: the interest of only cutting down specific trees possessing a certain trait
Clear felling: The process of cutting down large chunks of trees no matter the kind
Mineral Extraction (>2%)
The primary minerals extracted from this process are gold, though could include the following: iron, oil, bauxite, etc
Mineral extractions causes massive devastation as trees are clear-felled and topsoils are completely extracted, exposing minerals underground
Energy Development (>2%)
Constructing dams and reservoirs can lead to massive impacts towards the environments as a portion of the forest is to be submerged during this process
Illegal wildlife trade; poaching (>2%)
Though it does not contribute much to deforestation, poaching upsets the natural balance of the rainforest ecosystem

Farming (>2%)
Subsistance Farming
Commercial Farming
Road Building (>2%)
Roads are required in order to easily access areas of the rainforest, as well as transport material through them.
Once the roads are established, it could lead to further deforestations, as houses are built and farms are expanded
Settlement and Population Growth (>2%)
As industries develop and the country advances, economical opportunities will result in people migrating into the rainforest in search for jobs. There will be a need for further deforestation, as these people needs jobs and services,
