The Relationship Between Orang Asli and Various Group
During the Japanese of Occupation Malaya
Dec 1941-Feb1942: Japanese invaders swept from Kota Bharu in the north to Singapore
Many individuals and organisations took refuge in the hills and forests.
Eg: European tin-miners, colonial administrators, mangers of rubber estates and, in some caases, their female relations.
Friendly contacts made by many Chinese with the Orang Asi before the wr became invaluable during the Occupation.
Post Emergency Period
1960: Emergency was declared over by
the YDP Agong
1957 : Federetion of Malaya gained independence
Jabatan Hal Ehwal Orng Asli was formed.
Before WW2
Proto-Malay have close contact with Malay for 100 years
There is evidence to show that many modern Malays have some Proto-Malay blood
This does not mean that Semai and Negrito had no contacts at all with other communities
The Emergency Period
After centuries of relative isolation they experienced considerable and often brutal contact with warring factions of outsiders
For the first time, the Orang Asli were the main interest of British administration
The goverment's interest in the Orang Asli was seen as critical matter of national security
