stalin and lenin shared the notion that religion had no place in the soviet union
all religions and denominations were at risk of being targeted and cleric who refused to submit were arrested
the suppression of religion was easier in urban areas but in rural areas, churhches were destroyed and relics and icon confiscated
this destructions and confiscation led to many revolts in rural areas
protestors were branded as Kulaks and siezed if their property
400 higher clergys and 4000 priests were imprisoned as well as the worshippers
under lenin it was frowned upon to attend church, however it was quite popular amoungst the peasants
churches were destroyed, bells eventually melted down, priest were driven out along with the kulaks, who aso were under major risk
in areas where Islam was dominant, the same as churches, closed and destroyed, wearing a hijab was forbidden as well as mecca, Ramada and polygamy

the church and states relationship continued after the war, and by the time of stalins death many churches had been reopened
as well as good number of monasteries and seminaries, however this didnt mean freedom for the orthodox church
1946 stalin requested that all christian denomination came under the orthodox church
the orthodox chirch became incharge so that religion didnt become a part of political oppostion
the church soon became an arm of religion
