Women in war
Before WWII women did the traditional women's roles. It was frowned upon for women to work because it was thought to threaten the men's jobs. Women:

nurses and midwives, but were forced to give it up once married.
During WWII, there was a shortage of workers because the men were working, so women filled in the traditional male roles.

After WWII, women still had their jobs, but were still paid lesser than men. They were paid lesser than men during WWII as well.
