- - - - Formative assessment is a type of assessment done during the learning process, both formally and informally, to determine what a student nose in order to gauge their learning progress and modify lesson plans as needed to ensure students gain all the knowledge for the unit of study.
    - - Formative assessments are used to understand what pre-existing knowledge a student comes into the classroom with, and to check for what the student has learned thus far. Both these pieces of information allow the teacher to adjust in Taylor the lesson plans and learning to meet the students needs. The teacher can then fill in any gaps that the student might have an understanding and make adjustments to focus more on certain areas of study in order to ensure that the student is able to reach the final learning goals.
