Title: Discuss the significance of OCD in Decision making and to what extent is Art therapy more effective in benefitting these individuals in contrast to ERP?
Introduction
Point 1) State the difficulty for psychologists to study both mental compulsions and decision making due to not being able to see cognitive processes.
Point 2) The summary of biases that come with studying mental illness aa well as the decrease of reliability and validity in a therapeutic setting.Cannot generalise to have ecological validity.
-
-
-
Point 6) state all the evidence is non conclusive as you cannot generalise Art therapy or OCD to the general population.

Theme 4) Psychotherapy ( several paragraphs constantly contrasting therefore not outlined in plan as separate themes)
-
Ocd Treatment and ERP
Eva) How it can not suit some individuals such as children and elderly as well as people with other conditions such as autism, down syndrome or PTSD. High drop out rates. percentage
Evi/ studies) Victor Meyer 1966, Beck, biological reasonings Rosenburg
LTQ) Proving psychologists need to have an alternative options involving the same proven concepts but in a different presentation manner.
Ex) Initially talk on what are needed in treatment for OCD mental compulsions especially with decision making issues- discomfort.and why ERP is gold standard. What is ERP, how does it work for OCD, why can it be not preferred- evidence based. Similarities in general with concept of therapy treatment styles for OCD- ethics. How it creates evidence for OCDs effect on decision making as with practise of exposure and resistance, decision making improves with trust and rumination decreases.
Theme 1) What is OCD
-
P) How the obsessions, compulsions concept works.
Eva) Comorbidity and severity making it more difficult to outline the obsessions and compulsions ( engine) for other disorders, as well as participant bias.
-
Ex) The idea that OCD has compulsions as of a coping mechanism for the anxiety of obsessions and state the statistics of OCD.
LTQ) This helps psychologists understand why people behave the way they do in relation to cognitive distortions or need for control.
P) Common treatments
Eva) They work as medication balances the neurotransmitters mainly dopamine and serotonin as well as psychotherapy allowing for idea of understanding ones thoughts and learning to cope with them and acknowledge them. All OCD treatment is to have the client become able to resist compulsions by exposing and increasing the anxiety to learn to sit with the discomfort of the intrusive thoughts.
-
Evi/ studies) CBT- Bec founder, less relapse rates due to leaning how to live and react to situations. Root cause.
Ex) Biochemically- clamipramine and SSRI such as Prozac. Psychotherapy- Cognitive behavioural therapy-gold standard ERP. In combination is the best (triangulation).
