1st paragraph
The power of the prime minster comes mainly from his or her dominance over Parliament. This is because the Prime Minister is the leader of the largest party in the House of Commons. Therefore the prime minster can "push through" legislation if they have a large majority (e.g Thatcher -1979, 1983, 1987; Blair -1997, 2001, 2005; Johnson 2019-)
However, with small majorities or were in a minority or coalition government, there have been other times when a prime minister has not been able to control Parliament as effectively (e.g May 2017-2019; Major 1992-97; Cameron 2010-15)
