MECHANISM OF ACTION
to cause peripheral vasoconstriction
and increase blood pressure
Vasoconstrictor that predominantly stimulates a1 receptors
It also have B1 receptor agonist activity
that results in a positive inotropic effect on the heart at higher doses
CONTRAINDICATIONS
During halothane anaesthesia
Cyclopropane anaesthesia
ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION
Intravenously
INDICATIONS
Used in sepsis if hypotension does not improve
Control in certain acute hypotensive states
Low Blood pressure
STORAGE CONDITIONS
Avoid excessive humidity
SIDE EFFECTS
Arrhythmias
Confusion
Hypertension
Anxiety
Slow heart rate
Shortness of breath
Tremor
Headache
Nause and vomiting
