Article 2: What was life like for the Jews prior to Hitlers rise?
Predominantly lived in small, all-jewish towns called shtetls
THey spoke thier own language, Yiddish (a combination between German and Hebrew
Had always been seen as different to Germans. Inferior even.
They had their own Yiddish books and Yiddish movies, seperating them from evryone else
They tried to blend in a bit more and had all kinds of different occupation
Jews were emanipated in 1791, but this happened much later in other countries. In germany, Jews did not obtain full equality and freedom of movement until 1871.
Occupations: although politicians such as Hitler convinced the Greman people that Jews were taking all their wealth, in actual fact, the majority of Jewish people were relatively poor, with onlt a few in position of power and wealth.
Most Jewish children left school early to start jobs in craft and trade.
By 1933, whatever their status in their own communities, all Jews were treated with the same suspicion by 1933.
In Eastern Europe, Jews tended to stick to their own traditions, whereas in Western Europe, eg France and Germany, they tended to alter to adapt to their surrounding culture.

The nazi plan to exterminate the jewish people completely
Ghettos:Ghettos were made in Europe for all of the polish and western european jews. There were at least 1143 ghettos
Jews were separated out from other groups
the Nazis started to point out differences between themselves and Jews
Jews were then encouraged to leave by not being able to get jobs
As Jewish homes were taken away from them, they were forced to live in ghettos
Article 4: What happened to the Jewish communities after WWII?
In the ten months following Kristallnacht, more than 115,000 Jews emigrated from the Reich,
Tens of thousands went to western European countries and Palestine, and at least 14,000 made it to Shanghai.
The night of broken glass was one of the main turning points as it is after that when the Jewish population basically went into panic, trying to get out of the country
The ss put pressure on the Jewish people to leave the country, however now that the nazis had taken away all of their wealth, other countries would not take them in as they had very little money and were a burden to their society
Nazis systematically stole their wealth
Very few countries were willing to accept the jews as the great depression had taken place leaving millions unemployed all around the world.

The Creation of Israel: in the many years that Hitler had influenced over germany, many Jews left the country, with the majority of them settling in Palestine. With the vast and growing population of Jews in palestine, there soon became a demand for an independent state for jewish people. After much politics, in 1948 Israel was created.
